Helping shift workers to 'Beat the Shift Work Blues'

If you’re a frustrated and dissatisfied shift worker searching for a way to ‘Beat the Shift Work Blues’ then you’ve come to the right place. As shift workers we certainly work crazy and irregular hours which can make it very difficult to achieve a happy ‘work/life balance’.
But don’t worry – there is a solution!
I am going to share with you exactly how to ‘Beat the Shift Work Blues’ and how to become much happier at work.
Firstly I will just tell you that I am a shift work veteran of the airline industry where I worked for 15 years as a frustrated shift worker. So I know EXACTLY what it’s like to get up in the dark, to constantly feel tired, and to miss out on family time because I’m either in bed or working on the weekends.
So what did I do to help me ‘Beat the Shift Work Blues?’ I decided to take 100% responsibility for my life and do 2 things:
1. I changed my mindset which allowed me to accept what I can’t change, and to change what I can.
2. I made a conscious decision to ‘not mind shift work’.
As you know work can be so frustrating! There are many things that you may not agree with which can add to your frustrations exponentially. But the day that I decided to “… accept what I can’t change, and to change what I can” - literally changed my life.
Now if you come to work everyday and you say to yourself “… I hate my job, I hate working shift work, woe is me …” then that’s exactly what is going to happen. In simple terms, your thoughts will attract those things.
However if you start to take charge of your shift working life (and not the other way around) and begin by changing the way that you think, this mental shift can be very, very powerful.
You see the key difference is the thoughts that we think. You can choose what you think about and what you focus on, and you can also choose who you listen too. Keep away from negative people and certainly don’t be one yourself!
So come into work with a smile on your face, be friendly and don’t take life so seriously. Learn to laugh again because laughter is contagious. When we smile, people smile back.
Isn’t this the sort of work place that you’d like to be part of? Give it ago – you’ve got nothing to lose!

Are you sick and tired of getting up at 4am to go into work? Are you an unhappy and dissatisfied shift worker that is tired of missing social functions because you’re always working on weekends? Do you sometimes feel that there ‘must be’ a better way to live your life? Then don’t worry – you can get your life back.
If you’re a dissatisfied shift worker then you’re certainly not alone. There are literally millions of people around the world working crazy and irregular hours – struggling to make a living and achieve a happy ‘work/life balance’.
How do I know this? Well I am a shift work veteran of 15 years working in the airline industry so I know exactly what it’s like to get up in the dark, have no energy and to gradually lose your sense of humour because you’re too tired and stressed all of the time.
But don’t worry – there is some good news!
You can get your life back and it’s all about changing your mindset.
What do I mean by this?
Well the best day of my life came about when someone gave me a flyer which said “Change your life by changing your thoughts”.
Now when I first read it I thought – what the? But it wasn’t until I really started to do some research on what it really meant that I actually started to ‘get it’.
You know we can whinge and complain about how hard things are and how miserable we’re feeling but quite frankly – that will get you nowhere. You need to start to change your thinking and take 100% responsibility for your life if you are serious about wanting to get your life back.
As famous Business Philosopher Jim Rohn explains,
“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.”
So if you really are a dissatisfied shift worker and want to learn how to get your life back then start changing your thinking AND your mindset. Focus on all of the good things in your life and all of the positive things about working shift work - yes there are some! For example no traffic jams, time off during the week to go to the beach or see a movie, finishing work at lunchtime, no standing in long queues …
Changing your thinking will help you to forget about all of the things that you dislike about working shift work and help you to get your life back.

A bath before bed...gosh it seems so long since I've indulged! Maybe tonight...I've no night shift to fight my way through and a fresh bed to climb into! Ingrid x
